A pour over trust is simply a trust which is funded by another vehicle, usually a Will. This trust document must be created prior to your passing. The Settlor (the person who funds the trust) and the testator (the person who is executing the Will) are often the same person or are working in concert with each other. A pour over trust often provides for a charity or a loved one with the understanding that the funding will be created at your death. Pour over trusts are a very good way to ensure that all or a portion of your estate goes to a specific person, cause or charity.
